Informational Text Hot Topics: JUULs

This informational text lesson on JUULs and the dangers of adolescents JUULing is the perfect ready-to-go lesson to practice critical reasoning, standards-based questioning, and writing while using textual evidence. Students will be engaged with the Hot Topic that is currently a major issue of debate in schools nationwide. 

Students will be presented with a brief description of what a JUUL actually is and a detailed set of critical thinking questions to consider before reading. 

After reading, students will answer a variety of multiple choice questions which cover:

- Tone

- Central Claim

- Text Structure

- Context Clues (vocabulary/language)

- Idioms

- Textual evidence

- Rhetorical Questions 

Next, students will have a choice of 3 unique writing prompts which cover the topic and push students to justify their claims/opinions.
